This is an Armenian folk song, a ritual dance-song. It is performed during the “roundelay dance”. The dance is devoted to Flower Days. It was most popular in the late Middle Ages.

JAN GYULUM is a ritual song which is performed during one of the most important Apostolic church holidays – the celebration of the Jesus Christ’s Ascension.This song originated from the holiday devoted to the water goddess Astghik, which was very popular in the pre – Christian period.
